Annual gala dinner to benefit kids with diabetes

All money goes to SickKids and Canadian Diabetes Association

TORONTO, Jan. 7 /CNW/ - Book your ticket and be part of the third annual
Ultimate Jet Set Experience gala dinner and auction to be held Wednesday
April 23 at the fabulous Mercedes-Benz Midtown on Eglinton Ave. E. near the
Don Valley Parkway.
Hosted by Future Focus, the charity foundation of T4G Limited, a national
technology services company, this Ultimate Jet Set Experience promises to be
the biggest and best yet. It is a black-tie evening of fine dining, music and
lively bidding for great trips and other luxurious items.
The previous two Jet Sets raised almost $400,000 for children's charities
and this year the beneficiaries are the SickKids Foundation and its renowned
research work and the Canadian Diabetes Association, which promotes health
through diabetes research, education, services and advocacy.
More than 2 million Canadians have diabetes; with about 200,000 having
Type 1 diabetes, usually diagnosed in children and commonly called juvenile
diabetes, where the pancreas is unable to produce insulin. About 90 per cent
of the others have Type 2 diabetes, which occurs when the pancreas does not
produce enough insulin or the body does not utilize it properly. Type 2
diabetes usually develops in adulthood, although increasing numbers of
children in high-risk populations are being diagnosed. A third type of
diabetes, gestational diabetes, is a temporary condition that occurs during
pregnancy. It affects approximately 3.5 per cent of all pregnancies and
involves an increased risk of developing diabetes for both mother and child.
"The mandate of Future Focus is to help children and with so many
children affected by diabetes this is a natural fit," said Geoff Flood, T4G
president and co-founder of Future Focus. "The learning curve for families
after a child is diagnosed is steep. Besides needing to know new words and
terms, children and parents have to learn new skills; from testing blood-sugar
levels to needle injections. Our fundraising is aimed in two directions: to
help children manage their lives with diabetes on a daily basis and to
researchers getting ever closer to a cure."
Every penny raised goes to charity as T4G pays all administrative costs
within Future Focus.
The third annual Ultimate Jet Set Event will feature an auction of
fabulous trips - some aboard private jets - and other luxurious items all
donated by corporations and individuals. Many trips and items are already
lined up but Future Focus is looking for more donations. Each donor receives a
tax deductible receipt for the value of the donation.
