Announcing MEN OF COURAGE Conference: The First Canadian Conference on Male Sexual Victimization

                           March 17th & 18th 2008
at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, 123 Queen St. W

TORONTO, March 10 /CNW Telbec/ - This groundbreaking Conference is
presented by The Men's Project: a counselling agency based in Ottawa dedicated
to Helping men and their families build better lives. The conference is
sponsored by the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Why this conference? Male sexual victimization is "common, underreported,
under-recognized, and under-treated" (American Medical Association, 1998). And
there is more:
1 in 5 males are sexually abused by age 18 (Health Canada, 1984).
Perpetrators can be men (80%) or women (about 20%). The impact of trauma
can be severe and long-lasting, but there are ways for men to carve out a
healing journey.
We will be in good company! Our speaker line up includes renowned experts
(Richard Gartner, PhD, Andy Fisher PhD and Toronto's own Fred Mathews, PhD)
past NHL star Sheldon Kennedy, FBI Special Agent Jim Clemente, Verne Roote, a
First Nations Elder, Canada's new Ombudsman for Victims of Crime Steve
Sullivan, Restorative Justice expert Art Lockhart and more.

A panelled media conference will be held at Monday March 17th, 1:30 p.m.,
at the Hotel Motorcourt by the Child Abuse Survivor Monument.
