Anne Murray announcement "in concert" with Canadian literacy initiatives

WINNIPEG, Dec. 3 /CNW/ - Grammy award-winning songstress Anne Murray will
lend her support for literacy in the CanWest Raise-a-Reader Concert Series.
Partial proceeds from ticket sales to Murray's upcoming Canadian tour,
available through ticket outlets in early December, will go to CanWest
Raise-a-Reader to help benefit local literacy groups in communities across the
country.
Murray's latest album, Duets: Friends & Legends sparked the announcement
of a seventeen-city tour to launch in March 2008. Duets, featuring songbird
partners such as Jann Arden, Nelly Furtado, Olivia Newton-John and Celine Dion
- debuted last month to excellent reviews.
David Asper, Executive Vice President of CanWest Global Communications
Corp. and Chairman, National Post said, "Murray's voice has been the
soundtrack to the lives of so many Canadians. The swift and growing success of
her new release just adds to the anticipation of this long-overdue tour, and
we are absolutely delighted to have Anne connected with the new CanWest
Raise-a-Reader Concert Series. I am certain our readers and viewers will
welcome and celebrate her contribution to local literacy initiatives through
Raise-a-Reader."
In September, another Canadian music superstar, Michael Bublé, launched
the CanWest Raise-a-Reader Concert Series with the announcement of his
sixteen-city tour. Speaking on behalf of literacy in a Raise-a-Reader
television message, Bublé urged Canadians to be well-read by reading a book or
newspaper. Bublé's Concert Series dates sold out across the country in record
time.
The Concert Series was launched in conjunction with an exclusive
partnership with Assante Wealth Management. Assante has long been a supporter
of literacy and Raise-a-Reader and this new partnership provided additional
funding dedicated to creating this new series.
Joe Canavan, Chairman and CEO of Assante Wealth Management said, "It was
exciting to start the Concert Series with Michael Bublé - and to follow up
with the support of a cultural icon like Anne Murray is doubly so. These
wonderful artists are establishing this series as one that lends literacy a
unique voice. We continue to believe in the importance of literacy and the
role it plays in contributing to the growth and success of Canadian families."
"Our goal with the Concert Series has been to reach new audiences with
our literacy messages and having Anne Murray join us through her concerts will
directly enhance funding for our beneficiaries in multiple cities," added
Asper.
