Protecting the biodiversity of the entire South Shore area of Prince
Edward County, Ontario by expanding the existing Federal and Provincial
Parks/wildlife conservation areas and creating eco-tourism sustainable green jobs
BELLEVILLE, ON, Sept. 23, 2011 /CNW/ - Our Party wanted to thank those
who organized and attended the Picton Townhall meeting on energy on
Tuesday, September 20, 2011. It was an excellent turnout and we have
been asked to clarify our party's position on the Ostrander Point Crown
Land issue. Our party is dedicated to ensuring that the local citizens
in our communities make the important decisions that affect the future
of their community.
As indicated in this meeting last night by our party leader and local
candidate, Mr. Trueman Tuck, the Ostrander Crown Land is not an
appropriate location for nine environmentally destructive Industrial
Wind Turbines. The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Dalton
McGuinty Ontario Liberal Government should never have allowed the
Gilead Power Corporation to be able to acquire this irreplaceable
Important Bird Area [IBA] habitat in the first place.
Since April 2011, when this issue was brought to our attention, Trueman
Tuck has been passionately and persistently advocating, as the local
Peoples' Representative/Champion, that all existing Municipal, Federal
and Provincial Crown Land within this IBA and historic marine shipwreck
[NMC], including lands, water lots, islands and lighthouses be
consolidated into an expanded Park/Conservation and National Marine
Heritage Conservation area.
There are now over 5,000 acres of existing irreplaceable Municipal,
Provincial and Federal wildlife habitat lands, water lots, islands and
lighthouses which are already in the Crown's name at one level or
another within our proposed expanded Parks/Conservation areas.
Trueman Tuck states, "The South Shore of Prince Edward County and Point Pelee are the two most
important Bird Migratory areas in Ontario and need to be fully
protected. In addition, the South Shore and Tobermory are the two most
important Marine Heritage areas in Ontario and need to be fully
protected as well. In fact, Tobermory has 22 wrecks and the South Shore
and adjacent areas have over 200".
Trueman goes on to state that as your new MPP "I am fully committed, as is my party, to stopping the immediate and serious external threat of the environmentally destructive
Industrial Wind Turbines not only for the Ostrander Crown Land Block,
but also for the entire South Shore IBA. I now call upon all three
government levels to immediately pledge their support in writing in
order to make this proposal happen now".
