AMO President Congratulates Premier McGuinty on Advances on Waste Management Policy

OTTAWA, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - Peter Hume, President of the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), today thanked Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty
for his government's commitment to meaningful waste management reform. Changes
accomplished over the past year include holding the producers of consumer
goods and packaging more accountable for related waste management costs.
"The Ontario Government understands that greater incentives are needed to
encourage smarter packaging, reduce waste and increase recycling," said AMO
President, Peter Hume. "Shifting waste management costs from property
taxpayers to waste producers a provides practical incentives we need to better
protect our environment."
