MONTREAL, Jan. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - A host of Reebok-CCM players will be in
Montreal for the 2009 NHL All-Star festivities to take part in the 57th annual
NHL All-Star game on January 25, 2009. The NHL All-Star Weekend is a key
component of the Montreal Canadiens Centennial celebration. With Reebok-CCM's
global headquarters located in Montreal it is only fitting that, key Reebok
endorsee, Sidney Crosby was the top vote getter amongst all NHL players
receiving 1,713,021 votes.
Opposing Crosby on the Western Conference starting line-up is Anaheim
Mighty Ducks netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère who will be suiting up for his
first career NHL All-Star game. Giguère, who helped his team win the Stanley
Cup in 2007, recorded his 200th career NHL win on December 7th and played in
his 400th game as an Anaheim Duck December 1, 2008.
The Western roster includes three Reebok players and one CCM player;
joining starting goaltender Jean-Sébastien Giguère is goalie Roberto Luongo of
the Vancouver Canucks and center Pavel Datsyuk of the 2008 Stanley Cup
Champion Detroit Red Wings. Datsyuk, who is arguably the best two-way forward
in the game today, continues his rapid scoring pace from last season as he's
notched (56) points through (46) games and sits in fourth place amongst all
NHL players in points. Roberto Luongo's importance to the Canucks success is
evident through his impressive numbers as he's currently in fourth place in
shutouts. The Canucks' goalie and team captain will suit up in the P3 Reebok
Also on the Western Roster and Team Captain is CCM Player Joe Thornton,
who at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds is enjoying another brilliant season with the
Sharks. Joe, who is currently tied for second place amongst all NHL players in
Assists (43), will be hitting the ice in the CCM U+ Pro skates, scoring with
the CCM U+ Stick and wearing the new traditional looking 4R Pro Gloves.
Facing off against the impressive Western Roster, and joining the likes
of Sidney Crosby, are Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and
Vincent Lecavalier of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lecavalier, who's heading home
for All-Star week-end, will be accelerating through his opponents in CCM U+
Pro skates, firing off lethal shots with the Octo Gun 50 Stick and sporting
the Vector 08 helmet. Ovechkin worked his way up to the top of the NHL scoring
race (31) and currently sits in third place overall with (59) points.
Ovechkin, whose team sits atop the Southeast Division, will also gear up in
the CCM U+ Elite Line of Hockey Equipment and stickhandle through his
adversaries with the new Vector 10 Gloves.
The 57th annual NHL All-Star Game pits the League's best players against
one another in an East-versus-West format. The All-Star Game takes place on
January 25th at 6PM and will be televised live on VERSUS in the United States
and CBC Sports and RDS in Canada. In addition to the All-Star Game there is an
NHL SuperSkills competition on January 24th at 7PM which allows the NHL
All-Stars to show off their skating, puck-handling and shooting skills.
