- One of the first non-hybrid CUV's eligible for $1,000 rebate -
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 7 /CNW/ - The all-new 2008 Nissan Rogue 2.5 front
wheel drive crossover, which went on sale in September, now qualifies for a
$1,000 rebate under the Government of Canada's ecoAUTO Rebate program for fuel
efficiency. The program's 2008 list of eligible green vehicles was announced
today and is part of the federal government's plan to protect the environment
by encouraging Canadians to by fuel-efficient cars in exchange for a rebate.
The Nissan Rogue is Nissan Canada's replacement for the highly successful
Nissan X-Trail in the rapidly growing and highly competitive Small SUV
segment. The Rogue 2.5 FWD's combined fuel efficiency is 8.3 L/100kms
(9.1 city, 7.2 highway), achieving "Best in Class" fuel economy honours among
all gas-powered, automatic-equipped small SUV competitors.
"Nissan is committed to doing its part to help protect the environment
and worked very hard to make the all-new Nissan Rogue the most fuel-efficient
vehicle in its class," said John Junker-Anderson, Director, Quality, Technical
and Government Affairs for Nissan Canada Inc. "We are thrilled Canadian
consumers will be able to benefit from further cost savings now that the Rogue
has qualified for the ecoAUTO Rebate program."
The 2008 Nissan Rogue was also named winner of the SUV/CUV (under $35k)
category earlier this week by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada
(AJAC). Rogue's standard QR25DE 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder
engine is rated at 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft torque, tuned to provide ample
torque in the low-to-mid rpm range for smooth, powerful acceleration and quick
initial response from a standing start.
The engine features an aluminum block, reduced piston and piston ring
friction and increased thermal efficiency (over the previous generation
2.5-liter engine design), 9.6:1 compression ratio, and large diameter intake
port and exhaust manifold.
Every Rogue comes with a standard Nissan Xtronic CVT(TM), combining
smooth, linear and responsive acceleration feel with high-efficiency
operation. Rogue's CVT utilizes adaptive logic control and a high-speed
central processing unit. Its advanced shift control offers the optimal shift
pattern according to the driving situation and driver's demands, using input
from driver operation, vehicle speed, road gradient, turning condition and
acceleration force to adjust shifting patterns accordingly.
The Rogue is designed to add a new dimension to the small crossover
utility segment - satisfying both the functional needs of the buyer and their
emotional needs. Rogue's aggressive, performance-oriented styling, powerful
engine, responsive handling and driver-focused cockpit combine with its
thoughtful everyday utility to create a vehicle that shifts the way buyers,
especially younger buyers, think about small crossovers.
Among other Nissan vehicles, the 2008 Altima Hybrid once again qualifies
for a $1,000 rebate under the program, while the Nissan Pathfinder V6, now
more fuel-efficient, no longer has the $1,000 levy which was applied against
it in the 2007 model year.
