TORONTO, June 11 /CNW/ - Washington Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin
made an appearance at Scotia Plaza today to meet 100 of his biggest fans, in
an event organized by Scotiabank, the Official Bank of the National Hockey
League (NHL) and The National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA).
"It was amazing to have had an opportunity to meet so many passionate
Canadian hockey fans today," said Ovechkin. "I have already started training
for the 2008/09 season but it was a lot of fun to take a break from my
schedule to take part in this great Scotiabank event."
100 hockey fans won an exclusive opportunity to receive an autographed
photo from Alex Ovechkin and hear him talk with Canadian hockey great and
sports commentator, Cassie Campbell. Fans entered for the chance to see
Ovechkin at www.scotiahockey.com and were selected by random draw.
Recipient of the 2008 Art Ross Trophy and Maurice "Rocket" Richard
Trophy, Ovechkin is also nominated in the 2008 Hart Trophy and the Lester B.
Pearson Award to be given out at the NHL Awards Ceremony to be held in Toronto
on June 12, 2008.
"Scotiabank's partnership with the Official Bank of the NHL and NHLPA
gives us an opportunity to do some really exciting events that enrich the
communities where we live and work," said John Doig, Senior Vice-President,
Domestic Marketing, Scotiabank. "Over the last several months, we launched the
"Build Stanley" contest that inspired Canadian creativity, we've taken the
Stanley Cup(TM) to local communities, and now we're able to give fans a chance
to see one of hockey's newest stars. Scotiabank is proud to be a part of
hockey in Canada and give fans new ways to have fun with this great game."
