AFL urges support for First Nations Day of Action

EDMONTON, June 28 /CNW/ - The Alberta Federation of Labour is urging all
Albertans to support the First Nations' National Day of Action, scheduled for
tomorrow, June 29th.
AFL President Gil McGowan said today: "The labour movement has always
supported movements for social justice, and the struggle of Canada's
aboriginal people is crucial to the future of our country."
First Nations groups are planning events in several Alberta centers. In
Edmonton, marchers will gather at the Baccarat Casino (10128 - 104 Ave) at
11:00 AM, then march to Canada Place for a rally. In Calgary there will be an
Awareness Session at Olympic Plaza at 5:00 PM.
McGowan added that labour activists feel a special kinship with native
rights advocates: "We both belong to movements in which individuals who by
themselves are relatively powerless come together to draw strength from
unity."
