Aerospace association appoints new CEO

OTTAWA, Nov. 29 /CNW Telbec/ - The board of directors of the Aerospace
Industries Association of Canada (AIAC) today ratified the appointment of
Dr. Claude Lajeunesse as president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the
association. "We are delighted to make this announcement on the heels of what
was an exhaustive executive search process overseen by the executive committee
of the board," stated AIAC chairman, Jean-Pierre Mortreux, president and CEO
of CMC Electronics, an Esterline company. "Dr. Lajeunesse brings to the job a
unique blend of business acumen, managerial skill, and energy for change - the
right credentials to meet the industry's technology, innovation, and human
resources challenges and priorities head-on."
Dr. Lajeunesse joins the AIAC following a two-year tenure as president of
Concordia University in Montreal. He is also past-president and CEO of the
Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). He has served a
decade-long role as president of Ryerson University in Toronto, where he led
the institution through significant increases in enrolment, a major
development of its academic and research programs, and engineered a renewal of
campus facilities.
A native of Quebec City, Dr. Lajeunesse obtained a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in
nuclear engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New
York, following a B.Sc. in engineering physics from the Ecole polytechnique de
Montréal. He is currently a member of the boards of TD Meloche Monnex and
Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL). A fellow of the Canadian Academy of
Engineering, he is also a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and has
recently joined the board of the Canadian Liver Foundation.
"Keeping aerospace at the forefront of Canada's performance industries is
always a priority," stated Mortreux. "Dr. Lajeunesse will lend authority to
our collective voice as we work with legislators and policy makers to advance
Canada's contribution to global safety in aviation, our national security, our
economic competitiveness, and our stake in global environmental affairs."

The AIAC is the national trade association representing Canada's
aerospace manufacturing and services sector - the fourth largest aerospace
industry in the world, with annual sales of $22 billion; 80 per cent of which
are exported; employing more than 79,000 Canadians. The organization
represents the interests of 400 companies in all regions of the country.
