Advance poll results signify higher voter interest

MONTREAL, Oct. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec English School Boards
Association (QESBA) reports that approximately 4,400 individuals chose to vote
in advance polls at member boards holding elections on Sunday, October 28,
2007.
That number represents about 3 per cent of eligible voters in the English
sector, an increase over the numbers in the last elections.
The Directeur général des élections (DGE), the Ministry of Education,
Recreation and Sports and QESBA have been diligently publicizing school
elections in local and provincial newspapers, radio and, more recently, the
DGE embarked upon a television ad campaign.
QESBA President Marcus Tabachnick noted that these elections are a
significant opportunity for public involvement in education. "Commissioners
are collectively responsible for managing $900 million of your tax dollars in
the English sector alone. It's important that citizens have a say in how that
money is spent by electing the guardians of those funds."
Quebecers will vote in school elections on Sunday, November 4, 2007,
polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For information on polling
stations, please call your local school board or consult the QESBA website at
www.qesba.qc.ca.
