Adrienne Clarkson presents first-ever RTNDA Canada Diversity Awards for Canadian news broadcasters



    TORONTO, June 22 /CNW/ - RTNDA Canada - The Association of Electronic
Journalists - is pleased to announce the winners of the first ever RTNDA
Canada awards for diversity named after the Right Honourable Adrienne
Clarkson. Ms. Clarkson made the inaugural presentations tonight at the RTNDA
National Conference in Vancouver.
    The Adrienne Clarkson Diversity Awards are presented for the news
stories, features or series on television and radio that best exemplifies an
issue of diversity.
    Here are the winners:

    National Television Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity:
    Global Television Calgary for "Racism at the Door"
    Honourable Mention:
    A-Channel Barrie for "Hockey Stars"

    National Radio Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity
    CBC Radio 99.1 FM Toronto for "From Both Sides: Domestic Violence in
    Toronto's Tamil Community"

    Network Television Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity
    The Weather Network - Black History Series for "Pit Houses/Black Loyalist
    Burial Site"
    Honourable Mention:
    CBC Television for CBC News: Venture - "Dreamers and Schemers"

    Network Radio Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity
    CBC National Radio News for "Search for Security"

    "These awards recognize excellence in our industry," says Bob McLaughlin,
RTNDA'S President. "To have Adrienne Clarkson present these inaugural awards
was a great honour, as she personifies the RTNDA's commitment to promoting
diversity in Canadian news broadcasting. Diversity is a way of life, it's who

commitment to celebrating excellence in reflecting diversity in the stories we
tell."
