Acura RL redesigned and enhanced for 2009

RL Features Revised Styling, Larger Engine and Improved Handling

    TORONTO, Oct. 17 /CNW/ - Acura's flagship, the RL luxury-performance
sedan, has been significantly changed for the 2009 model year. The 2009 Acura
RL combines improved performance, enhanced technology and more aggressive
styling.
Last year's RL offered an abundance of consumer-friendly technologies for
the driver and passengers, including satellite-linked Acura Navigation System
with Bilingual Voice Recognition(TM), Bluetooth(R) HandsFreeLink(R) cellular
phone connectivity, DVD-Audio system, Active Noise Cancellation, and
GPS-linked solar-sensing automatic climate control.
The 2009 RL furthers its advanced technology with new features that
include Active Sound Control, Smart Entry, Bluetooth(R) Audio, and an enhanced
HandsFreeLink(R) system that now features over 700 bilingual voice commands
along with substantially improved voice recognition.
Performance has been improved with an all-new 3.7-litre V-6 engine. The
new engine develops 300 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque thanks to an
innovative new VTEC(TM) valvetrain system for both the intake and exhaust
valves, a higher compression ratio, along with a special dual-stage magnesium
intake manifold that enables the intake to function as a single- or
dual-plenum manifold design based on engine operating parameters.
To handle the higher power of the 3.7-litre engine, a new version of the
Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission is fitted to the 2009 RL.
Featuring new "smart" F1(R)-style steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and a
new straight-gate console mounted gear selector, the RL driver now has more
gear control than ever before. Fuel economy is rated at 13.1/9.0 L/100km
(city/highway) with an ultra low emissions rating.
    The RL's patented Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)) has
been improved for 2009. The SH-AWD(TM) system is now quicker responding and
better performing.
RL also receives upgraded coil springs, better performing shock
absorbers, larger rear stabilizer bar, and a larger wheel size. The 2009 RL
also receives new steering system upgrades that deliver a more responsive, yet
more linear steering feel. To further improve the RL's steering accuracy,
engineers changed the diameter of the steering valves, improved the design of
the steering rack guide, and incorporated an all-new compact noise isolation
steering joint.
To further enhance handling and ride comfort, the RL features higher rate
coil springs, larger diameter rear stabilizer bar, stiffer subframe mount
bushings and improved design steering rack components. To improve handling and
looks, new 18-inch diameter 7-spoke aluminum wheels are matched with more
aggressive tires (replacing the previous 17-inch wheel/tire offering).
For 2009, Acura will again offer two different trim packages on the RL:

    - RL: in addition to the potent new 3.7L V-6 engine and Super Handling
All-Wheel Drive(TM), the RL is equipped with standard Bose(R) Surround
Sound audio system, Bluetooth(R) HandsFreeLink(R) connectivity and
solar sensing climate control. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price
      (MSRP) is $63,900.

    - RL Elite: adds Acura's Collision Mitigation Braking System(TM) (CMBS
(TM)), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), genuine wood instrument panel
trim, and ventilated front seats. MSRP for RL Elite is $69,500.

The 2009 RL's new exterior styling is not only more aggressive, but
delivers excellent aerodynamics and reduced rear lift at high speeds. The
exterior shape is designed for a more taut and athletic appearance.
Inside, the 2009 RL features a more elegantly styled interior that
includes more room for rear seat passengers. RL's perforated leather front
seats incorporate six levels of heated/cooled ventilation. Moreover, just like
the driver's seat, the passenger front seat now has 10-way power
adjustability. Rear passengers will be more comfortable in winter due to the
addition of heaters for the rear seats.
The Acura/Bose(R) 10-speaker Sound System with DVD-Audio is now upgraded
to include Bluetooth(R) Audio, a new Note function for XM(R) Radio, improved
button legibility, a USB connectivity port, and even richer audio sound.

Acura is the luxury-performance division of Honda Canada Inc. Six
distinct vehicles (CSX, TSX, RDX, TL, RL and MDX) are marketed under the Acura
brand. Both the Acura CSX and MDX are produced at the Honda of Canada Mfg.
facility in Alliston, Ontario.
