Activities for everyone at the International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu!



    SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QC, June 26 /CNW Telbec/ - The most important
gathering of hot-air balloons in Canada takes place at the 24th edition of the
International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu from August 11 to
19. Presented by the Laurentian Bank, it will offer balloons, shows and
attractions to please one and all. The August skies of the Haut-Richelieu will
be dotted with balloons of all shapes, sizes and colors. The big stage will
vibrate to the rhythms of a choice palette of musicians. The young and the
young at heart will have free access to the entertainment areas. There will be
something for everyone at the International Balloon Festival of
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu!

    Fly Into the Magic Sky

    Throughout the nine days, you can come and watch at least two balloon
flights each day. You have dreamt of going up in a balloon? The International
Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu offers you the opportunity to
reserve a place on a morning or evening flight aboard one of the 115 balloons
from 5 countries, including Belgium, France, Brazil, Canada and the United
States. Among these balloons, fifteen have unusual shapes including six
newcomers. Kids of all ages will be fascinated to discover balloons shaped
like a panda, a turtle, a rooster, a pirate, a monkey's head and even a bear!
Rediscover the beaver, the pink elephant, the bee couple as well as the
angelic and diabolical duo, Angel and Burnie the Devil. Some favorites will be
back, such as Piko, Tweetie and the kind-hearted giant flower, Miss Daisy. The
enchantment is back as the Laurentian Bank Night Glows illuminate the skies on
August 11, 12 and 18.

    Diversified Shows

    The festival kicks off, August 11 with its traditional Show du Ciel,
entitled Salut à la chanson du Québec - Cap sur Petite Vallée. On this
occasion, the International Balloon Festival will celebrate the
25th anniversary of the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée with artists that
have participated in this unique Gaspesian festival at one time or another.
Under the musical direction of Jean-Sébastien Fournier, Richard Séguin, Pierre
Flynn, Daniel Lavoie, Yann Perreau, Luce Dufault, Louise Forestier,
Marie-Claire Séguin, Vincent Vallières, Marie-Jo Thério, Daniel Boucher and
other guests will inaugurate the Loto-Quebec Scene. Two evenings will be
dedicated to comedy. The first will feature Lise Dion and Doris Simon, two
funny ladies who will most certainly have you roaring in the aisles! The
second evening, hosted by Sébastien Benoît, will bring to the stage Peter
MacLeod, Sylvain Marcel, Steeve Diamond, Jean-François Mercier, Les Ex
(Patricia Paquin and Mathieu Gratton), Charly Pop, Messmer, as well as the
exceptional Jean Lapointe. Earlier that day, Annie Brocoli will perform for
the kids.
    The International also proposes two theme evenings. Marie-Chantal Toupin
invites you to her girl's night out, with the promise of a party with her
friends Annie Villeneuve, Marie-Eve Janvier, Sophie Prégent, Meggie, Anik Jean
and Eve, joined by Karl Wolf, to sing their hit song "Butterflies". The show
Hip Hop Dépendant will feature various artists such as Anodajay, Raôul Duguay,
Loco Locass, Accrophone, Sans Pression, L'Assemblée, Bougat, Samian and
DJ Horg. All through the festival, you will also have a chance to enjoy the
musical antics of many artists such as Marie Mai, Amélie Laroque, Vincent
Vallières, Kain, Stefie Shock, Marie-Pier Perreault, Ricky Paquette, Les
Cowboys Fringants, Etienne Drapeau and the French group Kaolin, who will be
appearing for the first time in Quebec: they will present perform "Partons
vite", their number one hit on the BDS francophone charts. The International
Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu takes great pride in presenting
the legendary Dennis DeYoung who will perform "The Music of Styx" as well as
the current hit "100 Years From Now". He will be joined by special guest Eric
Lapointe.

    Activities Galore and Assorted Free Services

    This year, our official presenter offers the Laurentian Bank Little +, a
new amusement area for the 11-years-and-younger crowd. This zone offers a host
of activities that focus on various themes such as funny numbers, fishing for
numbers, 1-2-3 GO! Kids will have a blast on the obstacle course, the make-up
workshop, the + shaped giant sandbox and the 1200-square foot home
construction workshop. The International Balloon Festival also sports the Mega
Park, one of the largest outdoor inflatable games area. Young festival-goers
will also discover Jungle Madness, an obstacle course, Shake It Up Area
equipped with trampolines and a variety of other physical activities. Animal
lovers will be happy to visit The Menagerie featuring more than a hundred
animals. Kids 10 to 18 years old will appreciate the Dr Pepper Teen Area with
four Jumpai and a variety of video and table games. Kids of all ages will have
fun at the interactive theatre performances of the Hydro-Quebec Energy Wise
Stand. Adults can relax at The Rest and Play Area, go to The Journal de
Montreal Hot Air Balloon Interpretation Center for site information, shop at
the Craftsmen's Walkway, test-drive cars at the Subaru Road Trials and cool
off at the SAQ Bistro. As well, the Jean Coutu Service Center will offer a
wide variety of services to visitors (changing and feeding area for newborns;
scooters and wheelchairs; Parent-Secours; Saint-Jean Ambulance and ATM
machines). With the purchase of tickets, you will also have access to the
Beauce Carnaval Amusement Park. In short, the International Balloon Festival
has a complete entertainment schedule that is sure to please all members of
the family.

    Fees

    Purchase of a passport offered at presale price remains the best choice
to take full advantage of all the activities offered at the International
Balloon Festival. At a cost of $29 per adult and $13 per child 3 to 12 years
old, the passport gives access to the site for the entire duration of the
festival, from August 11 to 19. Daily entrance tickets are also available:
$15 for an adult and $7 for children 3 to 12 years of age. At all times,
children up to 2 years of age get in free. As well, a family package is
offered for 2 children and 2 adults at a cost of $37 per day. Access to the
site includes shows, balloon flights, magical nights as well as the
entertainment areas.
