MONTREAL, Nov. 5 /CNW/ -- Accedian Networks Inc., a leading provider of
Service Assurance solutions and Ethernet Demarcation Devices, today announced
that FiberTower Corporation (Nasdaq: FTWR) has selected and deployed the
Company's EtherNID(TM) SLA-Meter(TM) platform to measure performance and
assure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) on its Ethernet-based backhaul network.
FiberTower, a leading alternative provider of backhaul services for wireless
carriers, chose Accedian's Ethernet Service Assurance Platform to monitor
SLAparameters end-to-end in a multi-point environment.
The Accedian EtherNID(TM) family allows backhaul service providers to
guarantee stringent Ethernet SLA parameters between each Base Station and the
MobileSwitchingCenters, a key requirement in the intensive rollout of 3G and
WiMAX service initiatives currently taking place in the US.
"Accedian's platform allows us to take control of our SLAs and to map out
the health of our network in real-time, enabling us to deliver on the
stringent 3G and 4G backhaul requirements set down by our carrier customers,"
said Michael Finlayson, FiberTower's Senior Vice-President of Technology.
The Accedian EtherNID(TM) platform incorporates a highly accurate
hardware-assisted engine (PAA(TM)), which allows constant and seamless in-
service monitoring of SLA parameters including packet loss, latency (delay),
jitter (delay variation) and continuous end-to-end path continuity check
(availability). All of this is achieved across (up to) 100 simultaneous
customer traffic streams, with an ultra-precise one microsecond resolution in
an end-to-end, multipoint fashion.
"Because of the very stringent, few millisecond-level, SLA parameters
asked upon wireless backhaul providers, SLA measurements must be performed in
the micro-second domain," said Patrick Ostiguy, President and CEO of Accedian
Networks Inc. "With its highly-scalable multipoint topology support and its
ultra-high density form factor, the EtherNID(TM) family is optimized for
wireless backhaul projects."
Additionally, the EtherNID(TM) features a high-performance Fast-Thru(TM)
engine and thus minimizes intrinsic packet-jitter and latency of the device,
as well as sub-microsecond at 100% wire-speed for all packet sizes, including
jumbo packets up to 10,240 bytes, virtually eliminating the introduction of
latency or jitter to the service itself.
