Abbotsford "CHAMP" tells success story on day two of War Amps B.C. seminar

    VICTORIA, March 29 /CNW Telbec/ - The War Amps Winner's Circle philosophy
encourages child amputees to overcome their amputations and live active lives.
Today at the Association's 2008 B.C. Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar in
Victoria, one CHAMP Graduate will tell the youngsters attending how she
achieved this.
At 1:15 p.m. today in the Ascot Ballroom of Victoria's Delta Ocean Pointe
Hotel, 45 Songhees Road, Danielle Knowles, 26, of Abbotsford, will tell her
inspiring story. Born a right arm amputee, Danielle grew up attending CHAMP
Seminars and realized she was not alone. She later became a Junior Counsellor
to give back, and joined The War Amps Operation Legacy, which passes the NEVER
AGAIN! message from war amputee veterans to Canada's youth. Now married and
working dual roles in her church community as a director of children and youth
programming and office administrator in a non-profit counselling centre,
Danielle will tell the Champs about the challenges she has overcome as an
amputee to be the success she is today.
Immediately following, at 1:30 p.m. in the same room, Champs from across
B.C. will demonstrate their recreational limbs and devices, including those
for golfing, swimming, hockey, cycling and weightlifting in a session called
"Amputees in Action!"
Morning sessions from 9 to 11:15 a.m. include: "PLAYSAFE" (Pacific Suite)
for Champs 6-11 to learn to be War Amps Safety Ambassadors; "Teen Issues"
(Songhees Suite) for Champs 12 & up on working, driving and body image and
"Play & Learn" (Harbour) for Champs 5 & under and parents to meet and share
information, and to learn about artificial limb options for infants and
toddlers.

Founded by War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton, CHAMP changes the lives of
child amputees through artificial limbs, counselling, regional Seminars and
programs like Matching Mothers. The War Amps is funded solely through public
support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service and receives no government
grants. For more information, call toll-free 1 800 250-3030, fax toll-free
