MONTREAL, July 22 /CNW/ - AAER Inc. (TSX-V: AAE) ("AAER" or the
"Company"), Canada's only original equipment manufacturer of wind turbines of
1 Megawatt ("MW") and more, announced today that it has broken ground on the
future site of a 1.5 MW AAER A1500 wind turbine to be installed at the U.S.
Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, California. Present at the
groundbreaking were General James Conway, Commandant of the USMC and Lisa
Cagnolatti, Vice President, Business Customer Division of Southern California
Edison. The turbine is scheduled for delivery at the end of the fourth quarter
of 2008 and ACCO Engineering Services will manage the installation of the
turbine in cooperation with the Marine Corps and Southern California Edison.
"We are very pleased to have broken ground on the future site of our
first wind turbine to be installed in the western United States," said Dave
Gagnon, President and CEO of AAER. "This is the second turbine that we have
sold into the U.S. market and, together with the 1.5 MW A1500 turbine sold to
the town of Portsmouth, Road Island, this project provides us with a visible
presence on both the east and west coasts of the U.S. We view the U.S. as one
of the fastest growing markets for wind power and look forward to continuing
to establish our presence across the country through the sale of additional
wind turbines. We are very proud to be working on this project with such
highly-regarded customers as the U.S. Marine Corps and Southern California
Edison, a company that is a leader in the alternative energy space."
On May 21, 2008 AAER announced that it had signed a turbine supply
agreement ("TSA") and a warranty, maintenance and service agreement ("WMSA")
with ACCO Engineered Systems, the contractor for the implementation of the
project. The WMSA will be assigned to the Marine Corps Logistics Base after
commissioning. The A1500 wind turbine will supply a portion of the energy used
by the base facilities.
