A winner on The International Day of Tolerance

MONTREAL, Nov. 16, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - The Tolerance Foundation has awarded thirteen year old Maxime Collard and his mother Isabelle Marchand its annual Paul Gérin-Lajoie Award of Tolerance to highlight the International Day for Tolerance (November 16). To draw attention to bullying and discrimination, they took to the streets, leading a march in their Sorel-Tracy home town that was attended by leading members of the community, as well as the Minister of Education Line Beauchamp.

After being ostracized by his peers because of his physical stature, Maxime became an outspoken critic of the situation in schools. That is why Maxime and his mother represent the vision and mission of The Tolerance Foundation.

" Maxime Collard and Isabelle Marchand showed us all what can be done to overcome exclusion and intimidation in the schools last spring ", explains Anne Lagacé Dowson, Director of The Tolerance Foundation

Previous winners include Father Emmett Johns, aka 'Pops', and Dr Gilles Julien.

The mission of The Tolerance Foundation is to raise awareness among youth about respect for differences in order to build a more tolerant and inclusive society. Since 1995, the Foundation has visited 550 schools, organized 6,800 workshops and reached over 330,000 young people. This year, the demand for the workshops is such that there is a waiting list of schools.

The prize will be awarded Monday, November 28th at 17h30 at the Hôtel de la Montagne, 1430 de la Montagne Street, at an event co hosted by radio host Jean Lapierre and Anne Lagacé Dowson.

*Media is invited to attend*
