A prestigious Forum on Intellectual Property Will Take Place in Montréal: February 18 and 19, 2009

MONTREAL, Jan. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian chapters of four important
intellectual property organizations are pleased to announce the Fifth Edition
of the International Forum on Intellectual Property - Québec (FORPIQ) which
will be held at the Hotel Nelligan in Old Montréal.
As a result of consultation with industry leaders, the programme for
FORPIQ 2009 is directed especially to managers of technological enterprises
interested in taking advantage of the practical experience of speakers in the
field of intellectual property. The theme of FORPIQ 2009 will be "Intellectual
Property at the Core of Successful Innovative Businesses".
The FORPIQ 2009 speakers are mostly from business circles. Collectively,
they represent a vast accumulation of practical knowledge in the management
and strategic planning of intellectual property assets. Mr. Gilles Gravel,
President and General Manager of Compétivité Québec is the Honorary President.
The presenters are: Krishna K. Pathiyal of Research In Motion Ltd.; François
Lajeunesse of Bell Canada; Gregory Schinn of EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering;
John Sheehan of FMC Corporation; Lori A. Ball of Molson Canada; Louis-Philippe
Vézina of Médicago; Alex Verbin Chachkes of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe
LLP; Paul J. Lerner of General Patent Corporation (GPC); Chuck MacLennan of
Quadco Equipment Inc.; Bill Middleton of Wi-LAN; Cynthia Garneau of Bell
Helicopter Textron Canada Ltd; Brian Baxter of Marquez Transtech S.A.; and
Jeff Astle of Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.
With the help of anecdotal accounts, these experts will address how
successful innovative enterprises manage the risks inherent to the
commercialization of their technologies, as well as how such companies protect
and benefit from their intellectual property assets, including trade secrets.
FORPIQ 2009 will also deal with intellectual property litigation as a
strategic tool and ways in which to handle the sometimes high costs of such
litigation. A panel will also discuss client-supplier relations in the context
of technology transfers.
The presentations and panel discussions will be in either English or
French with simultaneous interpretation. The technical programme will start at
8:10 am on the morning of February 19, 2009.
