McGuinty Kicks Off Thanksgiving Weekend With Commitment To Family Day
KITCHENER, ON, Oct. 5 /CNW/ - Premier Dalton McGuinty kicked off
Thanksgiving weekend, a time families cherish together, by stressing only the
Ontario Liberals are committed to delivering a new statutory holiday this
February called Family Day.
"There is nothing more valuable to families than time together. And yet
it seems tougher than ever to find, with so many of us living such busy
lives," McGuinty said.
"That's why we will create a new long weekend in February by introducing
a new statutory holiday - Family Day."
Adding Family Day to the calendar would give Ontario workers and families
a total of nine long weekends per year, putting the province on par with
Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the Territories.
"The focus of our plan is making Ontario an even better place for
families. Our education agenda is all about making sure our children get a
good start and a fair shot at success," McGuinty said.
"Our health agenda is all about helping families stay healthy and
improving care for our loved ones when they are sick. And our economic agenda
is about securing jobs, so moms and dads can provide for their families and
have confidence in an even more prosperous future for their kids," he said.
"And Family Day will give Ontarians a chance to recharge, and reconnect
with the people we care about most, making us even more productive when we
return to work."
McGuinty made his comments while attending an Oktoberfest luncheon here
"Events like these remind us that, while Ontarians consistently come
together to work hard and move our province forward, there's nothing better
than joining together to celebrate that we live in the greatest province in
the most blessed country in the world, and we have much to be thankful for,"
