$500 Million Investment a Significant Commitment to Transit Needs

TORONTO, Dec. 13 /CNW/ - The Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA)
and the Ontario Public Transit Association (OPTA) applaud the Ontario
government's announcement of $500 million for transit funding, as part of the
Move Ontario program.
"The fact that the Government is moving quickly on addressing these
needs, rather than waiting for the 2008 Budget, demonstrates the strength of
the commitment to reinforcing and expanding options for public transit," says
CUTA Chair, Penny Williams.
"This government's support of transit, not only in the GTA but right
across the province, is helping municipalities cope with rapidly increasing
demands on their transit systems," adds OPTA Chair, David Onodera.

CUTA is the national association representing public transit systems,
suppliers to the industry, government agencies, individuals and related
organizations in Canada.

OPTA is the provincial association representing public transit systems,
businesses, government and non-profit agencies that partner with transit.
