4,700 Public Elementary Occasional Teachers Have New Collective Agreements

TORONTO, May 11 /CNW/ - Public elementary occasional teachers, members of
the Toronto, Hamilton, and Avon Maitland occasional teacher Locals of the
Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), ratified new collective
agreements this evening.
"Tonight's votes mean there are new four-year collective agreements in
place for 4,700 more public elementary occasional teachers in Ontario.
Bargaining was challenging in all of these areas, but both sides were able to
reach a deal in each board," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"These are all important settlements. Every ratification is an
endorsement of our campaign to improve working conditions for public
elementary occasional teachers. Each contract settled tonight also means there
will be improved learning conditions for students along with peace and
stability for the local community," Clegg said.
The Toronto Occasional Teacher Local represents approximately 3,500
occasional teachers, the Hamilton Occasional Teacher Local represents
approximately 750 occasional teachers, and the Avon Maitland Occasional
Teacher Local represents approximately 450 occasional teachers.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
