TORONTO, Oct. 30 /CNW/ - Now in its 13th year, the annual Stella Artois(R) World Draught Master competition epitomizes Stella Artois(R)' dedication to delivering superior beer experiences the world over. On Thursday Oct. 29, Ontario's own Joe Oppedisano defeated contestants from 27 countries across the globe who converged in New York to compete for the coveted title and complete the brand's Nine-Step Pouring Ritual. Oppedisano placed second in the Stella Artois 2009 World Draught Master Competition and was awarded Stella Artois Fans' Choice by those watching the competition streamed live to their computers and through on-site voting. Oppedisano placed higher than any other Canadian in the history of the competition, which up until this year was only open to bartenders in Canada. This was the first year that Canadian beer fans could compete in the competition - a testament to Oppedisano's superior skills as he out-poured more than 25 full-time bartenders. In total, there were 29 contestants in this year's competition which was held at the New York City Public Library.
It all came down to a tense pouring finale where Oppedisano went head-to-head with Avril Maxwell from New Zealand. In the end, Maxwell was announced the winner and now begins a global journey to more than 20 different countries across the globe as an ambassador for Stella Artois(R) and her own quest to ensure every chalice of Stella Artois(R) is preciously poured and perfectly served the world over.
