$3 Million In Upgrades For Local Hospitals

Funding Supports Safe Care For Patients

    TORONTO, May 8 /CNW/ -

    NEWS

Hospitals in Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce counties are receiving close to
$3 million for infrastructure upgrades to ensure they continue to offer high
quality care to residents.
The funding is part of over $5 million the Ontario government is
providing to hospitals through the South West Local Health Integration Network
(LHIN) so hospitals can address infrastructure renewal projects that extend
the life of the hospital facility and improve the hospital facility's quality
or functionality.
Projects covered by the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) include
a wide range of improvements required to maintain or enhance hospital
operations, such as replacing steam boilers and emergency generators,
installing new high-efficiency air equipment for climate control, and
upgrading fire safety and nurse call systems.
The funding being provided is part of $41 million being invested in
hospitals across the province.

    QUOTES

"Our government is making these investments to ensure hospitals are able
to provide quality care in facilities that are well maintained and comfortable
for patients" said Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell.
"This funding will make hospitals in Perth County safer and more
efficient," said Perth-Wellington MPP John Wilkinson. "It will ensure that
patients will be assured of quality care closer to home, which is good news
for all residents of the South West LHIN."
"We're strengthening the hospitals in our area so that they can better
serve patients," said South West LHIN Board Chair Norm Gamble. "We're
continually working to find the best way to determine the most economical and
efficient way of improving hospital facilities and long-term investments."

    QUICK FACTS

    - Every hospital will receive a grant of at least $150,000 per site.
