23rd Annual Gemini Awards Open With News, Sports and Documentary Winners



    
                  First of three nights for Industry Awards
    

    TORONTO, Oct. 20 /CNW/ - The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television
kicked off the first of three industry award evenings tonight at the Liberty
Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto. In total, 32 awards were presented in
the News, Sports and Documentary categories. CBC's Don Newman received the
Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism (announced earlier in October).
The Gemini Lifestyle, Children's and Youth winners will be announced on
Tuesday, October 21st, followed by the Gemini Drama, Variety and Comedy awards
on Wednesday, October 22nd. The 23nd annual Gemini Awards will culminate with
the Broadcast Gala November 28th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, which
will be simulcast on E! network and Showcase at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
