WHISTLER, BC, Nov. 26 /CNW/ - More than 650 tourism professionals from
across the world are gathered in Whistler from November 25 - November 28, 2007
for the 20th Annual Canada's West Marketplace trade show.
Each year, the Marketplace brings together British Columbia and Alberta
tourism suppliers with tourism buyers from across the world in one location.
Since its inception in the late 1980's the Marketplace has proven to be an
excellent forum for tourism businesses to promote their products to tour
operators and wholesalers representatives from Europe, Asia/Pacific and the
"Growing interest in the Canada's West Marketplace trade show is a
testament to global interest in the outstanding tourism products available in
British Columbia and Alberta," said Rod Harris, Tourism BC President & CEO.
"We are excited about hosting the 2007 event as Whistler moves closer to
hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
Attendance at the 2007 Canada's West Marketplace trade show is
impressive, with over 150 Buyers, representing 16 countries, including more
than 36 new buyers. With an additional 475 BC and Alberta seller delegates in
attendance, over 26,000 appointments will be conducted at this year's event.
"Attendance at Canada's West Marketplace is a positive sign that
international interest in Alberta and British Columbia is on the rise," noted
Derek Coke-Kerr, Managing Director at Travel Alberta. "We are looking forward
to converting this interest into increased visitation."
Whistler is consistently regarded as one of the top four-season resorts
in North America, and will be the alpine and Nordic venue for the Vancouver
2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Most recently, Whistler took top
prize at the prestigious British Travel Awards, winning "Favourite Ski Resort"
as voted by consumers. The 2007 trade show will be hosted in Whistler as it is
also a highly attractive location to buyers.
Established in 1989, the Canada's West Marketplace trade show is a
partnership between Tourism British Columbia and Travel Alberta and is an
annual forum for promoting western Canada tourism products to international
tour operators, wholesalers and travel trade media. Each year, the Marketplace
alternates locations between Alberta and BC.
