Spacious package emphasizes safety, refinement and efficiency
TORONTO, Sept. 13 /CNW/ - For 2008, a new Honda Pilot Special Edition
(SE) trim is available, replacing the previous EX trim. The Honda Pilot offers
traditional SUV versatility with 8-passenger seating in a refined and
comfortable car-like package.
The Pilot SE trim offers a long list of standard features, including a
DVD rear entertainment system, security system, power moonroof, fog lights,
115-volt power outlet, ambient console lighting, automatic climate control
system with air filtration, auto-off headlights, tilt steering wheel,
conversation mirror, HomeLink(R), outside temperature indicator and an 8-way
power adjustable driver's seat. It also features a 2,045-kilogram (4,500-lb.)
towing capacity. A leather-trimmed interior is optional on the SE trim.
"The new Pilot SE creates an ideal lineup for the 2008 model year," said
Jim Miller, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "As with all Honda
Special Editions, the included features represent a tremendous value."
All three Pilot trims (LX, SE and EX-L Navi) feature Honda's VTM(TM)
four-wheel-drive (4WD) system. The Honda Pilot LX is also available with
two-wheel-drive (2WD) The Pilot LX 2WD features a 3.5-litre, i-VTEC V-6 engine
with Variable Cylinder Management(TM) (VCM(TM)) for enhanced fuel efficiency.
VCM(TM) deactivates three of the engine's six cylinders during cruising and
deceleration. An "ECO" indicator light illuminates on the instrument panel
when the vehicle is operating at an optimal level of fuel efficiency.
In keeping with the Honda "Safety for Everyone" initiative, all Pilots
are equipped with standard anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution
and Brake Assist; Vehicle Stability Assist(TM) (VSA(R)) with traction control;
advanced dual-stage, dual-threshold driver's and front passenger's airbags;
front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System; and
three-row side-curtain airbags with rollover sensor.
The Pilot has achieved the highest 5-star crash safety rating by the U.S.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) for both frontal and
side impacts. The U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
rates the Pilot as a "Top Safety Pick - 2007."
Standard comfort and convenience features on all Pilots include front and
rear air conditioning, power door locks and windows with auto-up/down driver
window, cruise control, keyless entry, 60/40 split three-passenger second row
seat and a 60/40 split three-passenger third row seat. A tire pressure
monitoring system and immobilizer theft-deterrent system are also standard for
Available premium features include the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation
System(TM) with bilingual voice recognition and a 7-inch screen, and a Honda
DVD Entertainment System with a 9-inch screen. A rear-view camera is standard
on vehicles with the navigation system to aid rear visibility.
An independent front and rear suspension and a rigid unit body structure
help provide a comfortable and refined ride. Additional premium chassis
components include power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, variable power-assisted
rack-and-pinion steering and 16-inch alloy wheels with all-season P235/70 R16
The two-wheel-drive Pilot LX achieves city/highway fuel economy of
13.3/8.9 L/100km. The 3.5-litre all-aluminum SOHC i-VTEC engine produces 244
horsepower at 5750 rpm and 240 lb-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm.
Four-wheel drive Pilots receive a 3.5-litre all-aluminum, SOHC, VTEC
engine (without VCM) that produces 244 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 240 lb-ft.
of torque at 4500 rpm. City/highway fuel economy rating is 14.1/9.7 L/100km
for all 4WD models.
The fully-automatic VTM-4 system provides confident, decision-free
operation in rain, snow, ice, sand and mud, while also improving on-road and
towing performance by distributing torque to all four wheels as needed. The
system provides front-wheel drive for dry-pavement cruising conditions and
engages all-wheel drive when needed. The VSA(R) system can apply braking force
to a wheel with low traction and direct driving force to the wheel with more
traction. For the rear differential, a "VTM-4" lock button located on the
instrument panel allows the driver to temporarily hold engagement of both rear
wheels to aid traction while in gears "1" and "2."
