2008 Genie Award Winners Announced by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television



    Away From Her and Eastern Promises tied with 7 Awards

    TORONTO, March 3 /CNW/ - Another spectacular year for the Canadian film
industry was celebrated tonight at the 28th Annual Genie Awards. The
star-studded event was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and
broadcast on the E! Television Network and IFC.
    The two big winners of the evening were Away from Her and Eastern
Promises. Away From Her received 7 awards including Best Motion Picture and
the Claude Jutra Award (announced previously) while Eastern Promises' 7 awards
included Original Screenplay and Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
