VANCOUVER, Aug. 25 /CNW/ - The Canadian Cancer Society, B.C. and Yukon
division today confirmed the following dates and locations of its four Cops
for Cancer cycling events taking place in B.C. this fall:

    - Tour de North (from Prince George through other northern
        communities): September 5 - September 11, 2008
    - Tour de Coast (Greater Vancouver): September 17 - September 25, 2008
    - Tour de Valley (Fraser Valley): September 18 - September 26, 2008
    - Tour de Rock (Vancouver Island): September 20 - October 4, 2008

The Canadian Cancer Society's Cops For Cancer campaign is a partnership
with law enforcement and emergency services personnel to raise funds for
pediatric cancer research and programs for children with cancer and their
families.
"Last year, Cops for Cancer tours raised $3.2 million and this year we're
upping the ante to $3.4 million," said Melissa McKay, manager of community
fundraising.
"We're calling on all communities along the tour routes to support riders
via their personal web pages at www.cancer.ca."
According to cancer statistics released by the Canadian Cancer Society in
April, about 850 Canadian children will develop cancer this year and 135 will
not survive.
Although there has been a dramatic decline in childhood cancer death
rates since 1985, childhood cancer still affects about 130 children in B.C.
each year.
The Society has allocated more than $9.8 million over the last three
years to fund childhood cancer research in Canada, thanks in part to funds
raised by Cops for Cancer in B.C.

Since 1938, the Canadian Cancer Society has operated as a national
charitable organization providing valuable cancer information services,
funding research and educating Canadians on cancer risks. In British Columbia
and the Yukon, the Society works with approximately 20,000 volunteers in over
80 communities, and has funded more than $35-million in BC-based research
since 2000. For more information, visit www.cancer.ca, or call the toll-free,
