1981 McGill College (La Tour BNP), a Building Owned by Industrial Alliance, Wins Architectural Award

MONTREAL, June 19 /CNW Telbec/ - Industrial Alliance Insurance and
Financial Services Inc. is pleased to announce that one of the buildings it
owns, 1981 McGill College (La Tour BNP), won the Architectural Durability
Award yesterday at the 25th Excellence in Architecture Awards organized by the
Quebec Society of Architects. The blue glass building, easily recognized by
the multiple broken lines of its structure, is one of nine award-winning
architectural works from among the 114 candidates presented at the Excellence
in Architecture Awards this year.
"For over 25 years, the bold silhouette of 1981 McGill College (La Tour
BNP), has embellished the cityscape of this prestigious Montreal avenue," said
Claude Tessier, Vice-President, Industrial Alliance Real Estate Services.
"We're proud to have recently acquired this superior category building which
is closely linked to the city's architectural history."
1981 McGill College (La Tour BNP), is a class A building with two
connecting towers, one 16 storeys and the other 20. Constructed in 1981, the
building has more than 625,000 square feet of rental space, and is located at
the heart of the business district. The internationally-renowned architect
René Menkès, of Menkès Shooner Dagenais and LeTourneux Architects (formerly
Webb Zerafa Menkes Housden Architects), gave this building its unique
geometric form. The result is a large number of corner offices with stunning
views of the city and Mount Royal. The v-shaped plaza in front reinforces the
definition of the two towers and the main entrance, and is the perfect
showcase for Raymond Mason's famous sculpture, The Illuminated Crowd.
Last October, Industrial Alliance acquired half of Edifice 1981 McGill
College Inc., owner of the building of the same name, in conjunction with a
major financial partner that acquired the other half. Industrial Alliance owns
more than 30 buildings in Canada, for a total rental space of four million
square feet and a market value of more than $800 million. In the Montreal
region, Industrial Alliance is owner of a number of prestigious buildings,
including La Tour L'Industrielle-Vie and Le 2200 McGill College (Maison
Ultramar), two office buildings located across from 1981 McGill College; Le
680 Sherbrooke Ouest, an office building adjacent to McGill University; le
Carrefour Industrielle Alliance, a commercial building on St. Catherine Street
which houses a Simons store and the Scotia Bank Cinema; la Tour A de Place
Val-des-Arbres, an office building located on Saint-Martin Boulevard East in
Laval; and Le 1611 Crémazie, an office building located at the corner of
Crémazie and Papineau, close to the Metropolitan Highway. In addition,
Industrial Alliance has a new real estate project on the land adjacent to Le
1611 Crémazie: Le 1601-1605 Crémazie.
