WINNIPEG, Sept. 21 /CNW/ - Steve Gilbert is Winnipeg's newest
multi-millionaire. He was the only player in Canada to match the six main
numbers - 05, 17, 24, 36, 41 and 49 - on the Wednesday, September 19th draw.
He won $3,798,021.
A couple of months ago, Steve bought a $1 THE WESTERN SCRATCH 'N WIN
ticket at Keewatin Co-op Gas Bar, 1008 Keewatin Street in Winnipeg. The ticket
revealed three LOTTO 6/49 symbols. Steve had won a Subscription - one set of
six numbers entered in 26 consecutive LOTTO 6/49 draws. Wednesday night, the
winning numbers looked very familiar.
"My wife, Tina, said she was sure we had some of those numbers," said a
very happy Steve, "but when I checked the Subscription, I couldn't believe it!
We had all six!"
Steve regularly plays LOTTO 6/49 and has been playing the same four sets
of numbers for years. His winning subscription ticket, however, was a Quick
Pick. "I've never had a Subscription before, but I'm sure sold on them now,"
he said. "I'm definitely buying another one."
The 46-year-old father of five works in inventory control for a grocery
store. Steve says it's a good job, but he just might consider retiring early.
Other than sharing the money with their kids, he and Tina haven't decided what
they'll do with their windfall. "It's an awful lot of money," he explained,
"and we'll have to think about it for a while."
One thing he will do is continue to play the lottery. "My father used to
play regularly before he passed away, and I want to start playing Dad's
numbers. I have a good feeling about them," Steve said with a wink.
Steve's win represents the largest prize ever won by Subscription in the
Prairies or Territories.
