$1 Million to be raised to support families & children with disabilities



    CALGARY, Feb. 28 /CNW/ - Today Canada Safeway announced that it plans to
raise $1 million dollars this Saturday to support families & children with
disabilities in its 214 Safeway stores across Western Canada. On March 1st,
Safeway employees will join community volunteers to sell the popular "Power of
$3" coupon book with 100% of proceeds being donated to over 200 local
charities.
    This year, Safeway employees have chosen local charities which focus on
assisting families and children with a variety of disabilities which include
Special Olympics, brain injury rehabilitation programs, and autism.
    Celebrating the 10th Anniversary, the Safeway We Care program was
developed in 1998 and has since raised $20 million for over 2,000 local
charities. Annually, the employees at each Safeway store select a local
charity or cause to raise funds and awareness for. This year, employees have
chosen charities that focus on children and families living with disabilities.

    Canada Safeway operates 214 retail grocery stores in Western Canada and
provides over $15 million in product and cash donations to a variety of
programs including; Hunger Prevention, Community Initiatives, Breast &
Prostate Cancer Research and Educational programs.
