Media advisory - Major discovery in superconductivity


    MONTREAL, May 28 /CNW/ - On Thursday, May 31st, Professor Louis Taillefer
at the Université de Sherbrooke and Director of the Canadian Institute for
Advanced Research (CIFAR)'s Quantum Materials program will announce a major
breakthrough in the understanding of high-temperature superconductors.
    This announcement will include a compelling story that will bring alive a
major accomplishment in advanced research for a lay audience.
    Discovered in 1987, high-temperature superconductors have held the
promise of major technological revolution in areas such as Magnetic Resonance
Imagers (MRIs), computers and the transmission of electricity. Progress has
been stalled by a lack of firm knowledge on the microscopic nature of these
