MONTREAL, April 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On April 21st and 22nd, the Young Bar Association of Montreal (YBAM), in partnership with the Québec Bar and Éducaloi, will hold its annual Legal Helpline. During that weekend, more than one hundred volunteer lawyers from different regions of Québec will offer free legal advice to the public from 9 am until 5 pm. The Annual Legal Helpline of the YBAM is the perfect occasion for the population to get informed on their rights and obligations. Our volunteer lawyers will answer all legal questions related to subjects such as family, work, consumer products, order of succession and much more.
A free legal service for the entire population of the province
For its Annual Legal Helpline, the YBAM will have three call centres in operation in the cities of Montréal, Québec and Sherbrooke. Thanks to a toll-free number, the YBAM's Annual Legal Helpline is the only one of its kind to offer a free legal consultation service to the entire population of the province of Québec, for the duration of a weekend. In order to insure the success of this unique pro bono event, the members of the YBAM will be able to count on the support of their colleagues from various other young bar associations of the province, including the young bar associations of Laval, Longueuil, Outaouais, Québec and St-François. "We responded to nearly 2,000 calls since 2010. We can only conclude that the population need for free justice access is increasing. Our partnership with the Québec Bar and Éducaloi allows us to provide a free and efficient service to the population" explains Frédérick Carle, president of the YBAM.
A partnership with the Québec Bar and Éducaloi
"Access to justice for the greatest number of citizens is a central issue for the Québec Bar," said the President of Québec Bar, Louis Masson, Ad. E. "We applaud the generosity of the young members of our profession who contribute to the YBAM's Annual Legal Helpline, added the President of the Québec Bar. Through their efforts, the population will have, again this year, free access to lawyers, legal information, and even support in their legal procedures. "
Éducaloi is also pleased to collaborate with the YABM on this important initiative. "Helping citizens better understand their rights and responsibilities and the legal system so central to their lives is one of the key ways to improve access to justice," said Me Nathalie Roy, Executive Director of Éducaloi. "Éducaloi works day in, day out to connect with citizens in ways that touch their daily lives, whether through our website, projects in the community or our social media. So playing a part in the AJBM's initiative once again this year is a natural fit with our mission."
Accessibility to the legal system
One of the YBAM's missions is to improve access to justice by offering various free legal services to the population. "For the past 25 years, we have been offering this free legal service and it is important for us to continue to provide some guidance to our fellow citizens'' explains Me Carle. In answer to the growing demand, many other pro bono legal services are offered by the YBAM and its volunteer lawyers. For more information, the population is invited to consult the YBAM's website at www.ajbm.qc.ca, section: Public Services.

The Young Bar Association of Montreal
Founded in 1898, the YBAM represents more than 4 200 lawyers with less than 10 years experience in the greater Montréal area. These young lawyers work in all existing fields of law where they leave their mark on the professional scene. They are the future of the profession, both on a national and international scale. The YBAM's mission is twofold. First, the YBAM seeks to defend and to promote its members' interests. Second, it offers services of consultation and legal information on a volunteer basis to different segments of the population, and organizes charitable activities. Overall, it seeks to improve access to justice and to contribute to the collective well-being.
