John Bergsma Appointed Chairman of Pioneering Technology Board

Bergsma will also assume an active role with Pioneering's Management team

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - Pioneering Technology Corp. ("Pioneering" or "the Corporation") (TSX Venture: PTE), an energy smart product innovation and consumer goods company, announced today that John Bergsma has been appointed Chairman of Pioneering's Board of Directors. Mr. Bergsma brings deep domain and channel experience to the Pioneering team and a long history of corporate stewardship.

Mr. Bergsma has served Pioneering Technology and its shareholders well since joining the Board in July 2008. John who recently retired from his appointment as the Commissioner of Corporate Services for the Regional Municipality of Niagara will now take on a more active role at Pioneering working closely with Pioneering's Management team.

Bergsma said of the appointment, "I appreciate the confidence that the Board has shown in naming me Chairman and I am committed to adding value to Pioneering at this very exciting juncture in its history. I intend to take on a more active role in helping management develop and execute its business strategy".

Mr. Bergsma has two Engineering degrees from McMaster University and an MBA from the University of Waterloo. He has served as President of Lennox Canada Inc., President & CEO of Union Gas Limited, President of Massey Ferguson Research Ltd. and Columbus McKinnon Limited. He has also served in the past on the Boards of Directors of CFM Corp., various natural gas utilities, pipeline companies and industry associations, including the Executive Committee of the Board of the International Gas Union.

Mr. Bergsma currently sits on the Boards of St. Catharines Hydro Inc., Horizon Utilities Corp., the Ontario Clean Water Agency and the Niagara Health System Foundation and has served over 20 years on the Board of Governors of the University of Waterloo, including a term as Board Chair. He also served his community on the Boards of the Stratford Festival of Canada, Ontario Great Lakes Renewal Foundation, the Canadian Urban Institute, and various United Ways across Ontario.

John is an avid lacrosse fan and has been an investor and Managing Partner of professional lacrosse's San Jose Stealth and Toronto Rock. He was also a Governor of the National Lacrosse League.
