TORONTO, Sept. 2 /CNW/ - TMX Group Inc. today announced August 2010 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges - Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Highlights
Toronto Stock Exchange experienced an increase in all measures in August 2010 compared to July 2010; trading volume was up 9%, value was up 17% and transactions were up 5% for the month. Trading volume also increased significantly on TSX Venture Exchange in August 2010, both compared to July 2010 and to August 2009. Trading volume on the junior market was 19% higher in August 2010 compared to July 2010; on a year-to-date basis, volume increased 44% compared to the same period in 2009.
Montreal Exchange continued to see significant increases in trading volume and open interest in August 2010 compared to July 2010. August volume was up 34% and open interest was up more than 14% over July 2010. On a year-to-date basis in 2010, both open interest and volume increased 31% compared to the first eight months of 2009.
NGX posted a strong year-over-year volume increase of 39% in August 2010 compared to August 2009. On a year-to-date basis, total energy volume was up 14% compared to last year.
