MONTREAL, March 10 /CNW/ - CTV Montreal announced today that its early
morning local newscast FIRST NEWS has been cancelled and will be replaced by
the first half-hour of the national broadcast of CANADA AM from 6 - 6:30 a.m.
The cancellation will result in the loss of four positions, one of which is
currently vacant.
Veteran journalist Herb Luft, the host of FIRST NEWS since it went on the
air nine years ago, will return full-time to daily news reporting.
The announcement is the latest in ongoing efforts by CTV to maximize
efficiencies in the face of today's economic reality.
