TORONTO, Oct. 29 /CNW/ - The 2009 Toronto Microfinance Conference, a full-day event exploring microfinance and its role in alleviating global poverty, is taking place on November 14, 2009, at the Toronto Reference Library in the Bram & Bluma Appel Salon.

The conference is co-hosted by the Rotary International District 7070 Microfinance Committee, FINCA International, ACCESS Community Capital Fund, Grameen Foundation, Oikocredit, Opportunity International and Foundation for Women; and is sponsored by Crann Law Firm and Scotiabank.

The conference will include case studies and workshops focusing on microfinance programs around the world.

"Microfinance offers a way to transform the lives of the poor by enabling them to participate in the economy through access to small-scale loans and other financial services" says Gord Crann, Toronto Microfinance Conference Co-Chair. "We are pleased to have global and domestic experts come to Toronto to share with us how microfinance organizations are transforming the lives of the poor."

The conference is open to the public. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to learn more about microfinance throughout the world and how to become involved.
