- Kraft Canada awards a total of $250,000 towards community refreshes -TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - From Kaslo, BC, to Paradise, NL, TSN is taking
its top-rated sportscast SPORTSCENTRE on a cross-country road trip, beginning
this weekend. Touching down in 10 communities in 10 days, the Kraft
Celebration Tour kicks off this Saturday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. ET with TSN
anchors Darren Dutchyshen and Jennifer Hedger hosting SPORTSCENTRE live from
Kaslo - a small logging town off of Kootenay Lake in southeastern British
Columbia. The Kraft Celebration Tour then continues through to August 31,
broadcasting from a different Canadian community every day leading up to TSN's
25th Anniversary on September 1.
In July, 1.6 million votes were cast to select the 10 winning communities
for the Kraft Celebration Tour. As part of the Tour, the winning communities
will receive one of ten $25,000 community refreshes from Kraft to be used for
improvements to a recreational facility in the prize-winning area. The
locations, dates and broadcast times for the Kraft Celebration Tour editions
of SPORTSCENTRE on TSN are as follows:- Kaslo, BC - Saturday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. ET

Located on Kootenay Lake in southeastern B.C. with a population of 1,000,
the small logging village will use the $25,000 from Kraft Canada towards
improving the Logger Sports Grounds - a focal point for the community's
annual May Days celebration.
- Kingston, ON - Sunday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. ET

Located where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River in eastern
Ontario, Kingston is one of Canada's oldest communities. Kingston will
use the $25,000 from Kraft Canada to improve facilities at the local YMCA
benefiting athletes with physical disabilities.
- Red Deer, AB - Monday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. ET

Located in Central Alberta, halfway between Calgary and Edmonton, Red
Deer is the third largest city in the province with a population of
almost 90,000 people. The community prides itself on being recognized as
'Canada's Economic Capital.' The $25,000 from Kraft Canada will go
towards improving the community's not-for-profit Red Deer Boxing Club -
an organization that encourages local kids to combine athleticism,
sportsmanship and self-worth through the sport of boxing.
- Trois-Pistoles, QC - Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. ET - SPORTS 30 on RDS

Located 250 km east of Quebec City on the shores of the St. Lawrence
River, Trois-Pistoles - or "three coins" - got its unique name from the
value of a goblet said to be lost in the St. Lawrence more than 300 years
ago. The $25,000 from Kraft Canada will go towards improving the
community's historic Paul-Emile Dubé baseball stadium, which hosts nearly
200 games each summer.
- Watrous, SK - Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. ET

Located approximately 100 km southeast of Saskatoon, Watrous began as a
grain production centre and division point for the railway. Known for the
popular waters of Lake Manitou, the town of 1,800 people recently
celebrated its 100th anniversary in July. Watrous will use the $25,000
from Kraft Canada towards improving the Watrous Centennial Arena, which
has been home to local hockey league games for more than 40 years.
- Fredericton Junction, NB - Thursday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. ET

Fredericton Junction and its neighbours from six rural towns raised more
than $1 million to build the Tri-County Complex, which is set to open
this summer with an indoor hockey rink and bowling alley. The community
will use the $25,000 from Kraft Canada to further enhance the complex.
Located on the Oromocto River in southeast New Brunswick, Fredericton
Junction has a combined population of 4,000 people.
- Dauphin, MB - Friday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. ET

Located 150 km north of Winnipeg near the Saskatchewan border, Dauphin
was once a Hudson's Bay trading post during the 1800s. The community's
Vermillion Park Sportsplex will benefit from the $25,000 from Kraft
Canada - creating new soccer and rugby fields.
- Amherst, NS - Saturday, Aug.29 at 6 p.m. ET

Amherst is located on the western border of Nova Scotia with a population
of 10,000. The community is the birthplace of four of Canada's 23 Fathers
of Confederation and is also the hometown of hockey player Bill Riley,
the third black player to make the NHL. Amherst plans to use the $25,000
from Kraft Canada to improve the Cumberland YMCA, which plays a central
role in the sports life of the community.
- Elk Lake, ON - Sunday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. ET

Founded in 1909, Elk Lake is a small community (population approximately
500) in northeastern Ontario located 225 km north of North Bay. As part
of its centennial celebration, Elk Lake is fixing up its community
baseball park and will use the $25,000 from Kraft Canada to enhance the
project.
- Paradise, NL - Monday, Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. ET

Located on the western outskirts of St. John's, Paradise is a thriving
community with a population of 13,000. Paradise will use the $25,000 from
Kraft Canada to make improvements to the Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park.
Established 25 years ago, it is the only sports park in the province
dedicated exclusively to youth sports.Throughout the 10-day Tour, TSN anchors Dutchyshen and Hedger will host
the program from the winning communities in Western Canada (Kaslo, Red Deer,
Watrous, Dauphin and Elk Lake), while Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole will lead
TSN's coverage from the communities in Eastern Canada (Kingston,
Trois-Pistoles, Fredericton Junction, Amherst, and Paradise).
Canada's top-rated daily French-language sportscast, SPORTS 30 on RDS,
will also join the Kraft Celebration Tour, with veteran anchors Chantal
Machabée and Marc Labrecque hosting SPORTS 30 live from Trois-Pistoles on
Tuesday, August 25.
