TORONTO, May 23 /CNW/ - Nine days after the massive 8-magnitude quake hit
mountainous Sichuan province in southwestern China, the number of dead and
missing rose to more than 74,000, with a further 247,000 hurt and an estimated
5 million people left homeless. Fairchild Television and Talentvision are
joining forces with local Chinese community in a Cross Canada Earthquake
Relief Effort "Together For China".
A charity event "Together for China - Earthquake Relief Telethon",
produced by HK-TVB featuring renowned performing artistes from Asia, Eric
Tsang, Jackie Cheung, Alan Tam, Aaron Kwok, Hacken Lee and a lot more popular
singers from Hong Kong will be brought to Chinese Canadians nationally as part
of the China earthquake relief initiative organized by Fairchild Television in
partnership with the Canadian Red Cross on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 8pm
EST/PST. The telethon will also see representatives from organizations in the
Canadian Chinese community appealing and presenting pledges to help the
earthquake victims. On Talentvision, a special fund-raising program will be
aired 8:30pm PST the same day, highlighting the complications of rescue
efforts and the devastating everyday life of the victims.
Cable carriers such as Rogers, Shaw, Bell ExpressVu, Cogeco, Telus are
also support by unscrambling the signal and making Fairchild TV and
Talentvision to all viewers for the duration of the Telethons. With
everybody's participation, Chinese Canadian viewers will definitely not be shy
to demonstrate their generosity and benevolence.
A toll free number from Red Cross 1-866-533-8053 with 80 designated phone
lines will be effective from 8:00am EST this Friday to assist in taking
donation calls. In addition, Fairchild Television and Talentvison are proud to
contribute all commercial revenues generated within the programs to the China
Earthquake Relief Fund.
