TORONTO, Dec. 30 /CNW/ - Earlier today, Skyservice Airlines flight No.
828 destined for Toronto's Pearson Airport diverted to Punta Cana.
The flight originated in Granada with a scheduled stop in Barbados and a
final destination Toronto, when during flight from Barbados, a disruptive
passenger attempted to tamper with an aircraft cabin door.
The crew, assisted by other passengers, were able to subdue the
disruptive passenger and as a precautionary measure, the aircraft diverted to
Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
Skyservice spokesperson Sabah Mirza said, "At no time was the safety of
the aircraft in jeopardy. While the door was never at risk of opening in
flight, the flight crew reacted quickly and appropriately to restrain the
passenger and maintain the safety of the aircraft."
The remaining 201 passengers from Flight No. 828 are being accommodated
overnight by Skyservice Airlines in Punta Cana and are scheduled to return to
Toronto tomorrow, December 31st, 2008.
