"This is an incredible opportunity for our bank employees and their
colleagues to build team spirit, have fun and raise funds for a very important
cause in our community," said Sue Nichol, Scotiabank District Vice-President,
Toronto North. "We are putting the wheels in motion to help AboutFace and Camp
Trailblazers as they provide a safe and accessible environment for our youth."
The Scotiabank Tour de Toronto North will help raise awareness and funds
for Camp Trailblazers, a unique program for youth ages 10-17 with facial
disfigurements. Camp Trailblazers is hosted by AboutFace, a charitable
organization dedicated to promoting the abilities of individuals with facial
disfigurements; introducing positive role models; and demonstrating that
anything is possible when driven by passion. At Camp Trailblazers, kids get to
meet and work with inspiring role models like Randy who also has birthmark
covering a portion of his face.
"Scotiabank's team is made up of bankers and community leaders who want
to make a difference," says Anna Pileggi, AboutFace Executive Director. "Our
kids have so much potential. All they need is some encouragement and support.
At Camp Trailblazers, we challenge youth to strive for more and help them
recognize their value. Scotiabank is working with AboutFace to build the self
esteem and confidence in kids with facial disfigurements so that they can
achieve their full potential," says Pileggi. This year AboutFace will host 4
camps across Canada.
