At 9:58 p.m., officers deployed in a marine vessel observed three
unidentified males transferring cardboard boxes of contraband cigarettes from
a 20 foot Patriot MP boat into a pick-up truck located on the south shore of
Cornwall Island in Akwesasne, Ontario. When officers approached, the three
males jumped into the truck and fled the scene. The men were not located. RCMP
officers seized 1,750 resealable bags of contraband cigarettes as well as a 20

"The demand for cheaper tobacco products is evident by the increased
number of locations where illegal tobacco products can be purchased" said Sgt.
Michael Harvey of the RCMP. "We are seeing the product sold from smoke shacks
and shops, independent distributors and home delivery".
