TORONTO, May 1 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ontario Psychological Association
announced today that the Toronto Police Service is the inaugural winner of the
Ontario Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award. The Award will be presented
at a luncheon on Thursday May 1st at the Toronto Board of Trade. The luncheon
will also include a keynote address from Michael Howlett, President & CEO of
the new Canadian Mental Health Commission.
The Ontario Psychologically Healthy Workplace (PHW) Award honours Ontario
organizations, companies and businesses, both public and private, who are
leading the way in the development of a psychologically healthy workplace
culture. A psychologically healthy workplace culture is one that integrates
employee goals of health and well-being with organizational goals of
performance and productivity.
"The Award is based on an extensive and detailed submission review
process as well as on-site interviews and discussions with staff from all
levels of the organization focusing on five key areas: Employee Involvement;
Employee Growth and Development; Work-Life Balance; Health and Safety; and
Employee Recognition," explained Doug Saunders, Chair of the Ontario PHW Award
Program. "We are pleased to present this Award to the Toronto Police Service
in recognition of its commitment and efforts in these five areas to foster
employee health and well-being along with organizational performance and
quality."
With this award, the Toronto Police Service will join over 250 Award
winners from more than forty State and Provincial Awards programs across North
America. Ontario is the third Canadian province to launch such a program,
along with Nova Scotia and British Columbia. As Ontario PHW Award winners,
Toronto Police Service will also be eligible for the American Psychological
Association's National Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards that will be
held in March 2009.
