VIA Expands Station Services in Rivers, Manitoba

    Improved Facilities for Customers

    WINNIPEG, July 8 /CNW/ - VIA Rail's Canada's Rivers station in Manitoba
is expanding to meet the growing needs of the community. Over the next few
months VIA's current facility at Brandon North will be moved and relocated a
short distance away, to Rivers, Manitoba. Starting September 8, 2008 customers
in Rivers will have a secure facility from which to board or detrain VIA's
western transcontinental Canadian.
"VIA has been working with the communities of Brandon and Rivers for some
time now," said Michael Woelcke, VIA's Western Director, Customer Experience,
"to better meet their needs. This relocation is thanks in large part to their
desire to work with VIA to provide a facility in a location that is much more
visible and secure".
The plan will see the current station shelter located at Brandon North
moved to Rivers thus ensuring that passengers are provided with a convenient
and secure location to entrain and detrain. This new facility at Rivers will
easily accommodate customer needs for both Rivers and Brandon North.
Brandon North station shelter is currently located 16km north of Brandon
on Highway 10. Effective September 8, 2008, passengers connecting with the
Canadian will be able to board at Rivers station which is located at the
centre of the town of Rivers on Highway 25. This station in Rivers is a short
15 minute drive from the station shelter in Brandon North.
The Canadian operates three times per week in each direction. Westbound
to Edmonton and Vancouver the train serves the communities of Brandon North
and Rivers on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 7:15pm and 7:40pm respectively.
Eastbound to Winnipeg and Toronto it stops on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at
8:23am and 8:35am. On December 2, 2008 a new schedule will be introduced for
the Canadian. The new station times for Rivers will be announced at a later
date.
