OTTAWA, Dec. 11 /CNW/ - Michael Ignatieff's campaign aide, Warren
Kinsella, is threatening to sue conservative pundit Ezra Levant for writing
about Kinsella's involvement in Adscam.
Justice John Gomery, who chaired the Judicial Inquiry into that scandal,
named Kinsella more than a dozen times in his findings. On page 160 of his
report, in a chapter called "Who is responsible?" Justice Gomery noted that
Kinsella, then chief of staff to Public Works Minister David Dingwall, tried
to steer lucrative advertising and polling contracts through Chuck Guite.
Guite was later convicted of five counts of fraud.
Justice Gomery called Kinsella's conduct "highly inappropriate".
"I'm surprised Kinsella would draw attention to his role in Adscam,
because that's exactly what this trial will be about," said Levant. "Something
tells me Kinsella didn't consult Ignatieff before threatening this lawsuit -
especially since the trial will likely be during an election year."
