Media alert - Northern inertia: Canada's businesses stay too close to home

UPS hosts webinar to reveal the results of a comprehensive study
    on the Canadian SMB market

TORONTO, July 16 /CNW/ -What: UPS Canada presents in an interactive webinar, the results of the
Canadian edition of its Business Monitor survey. This national
study focuses on the global competitiveness of small and medium
sized businesses in major markets around the world. The online
presentation will provide comparative insight into the changing
opinions, practices, strategies and attitudes of business leaders
from Canada's SMB community. The webinar will also highlight the
significance of the survey's findings on the country's economy,
particularly as it relates to dormant productivity levels and
           international trade.

Who: Mike Tierney, President, UPS Canada
           Amy Knowles, TNS Canadian Facts

Why: Canada's entrepreneurs are showing inertia when it comes to
venturing beyond our borders to grow business. The Canada Business
Monitor (CBM) found more than one-third of Canada's SMBs believe
they have enough business to deal with here in Canada while a
meagre three per cent have expanded internationally.

This unwillingness to reach beyond Canada's borders is
particularly troubling given the recent and significant growth of
China, which shipped $2.6 billion worth of goods to Canada, while
only $557 million were exported from Canada to China. With SMBs
comprising 98 per cent of Canadian commerce, entrepreneurs will
need to look beyond national borders to bolster long-term business
           prospects.
