Impressive Complex Celebrates Indo-Canadian Art, Architecture And Culture

TORONTO, July 22 /CNW/ - Premier Dalton McGuinty today celebrated the
inauguration of the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a marvel of Indian art and
architecture that will attract tourists and teach visitors about Ontario's
Indo-Canadian community.
"Ontario has a large, vibrant Indo-Canadian community and such a strong
commitment to celebrating our diversity and I know this Mandir will thrive
here," said Premier McGuinty. "I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to
build this beautiful complex - it is a wonderful gift to Ontario and to
Canada."
The current spiritual leader of the BAPS Swaminarayan movement, His
Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, attended the ceremony. Prime Minister
Stephen Harper also attended the ceremony.
"The Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is an architectural masterpiece that will
become a landmark destination," said Ontario Minister of Citizenship and
Immigration Mike Colle at an earlier visit. "The Mandir pays tribute to the
marvels of Indian civilization right here in Ontario."
The Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is made entirely of stone and marble and
features intricate hand carvings and sculptures. The temple complex also
includes a museum and a meeting hall.
"This beautiful Mandir reminds us all that what is truly important is our
common humanity," said Premier McGuinty. "And if we work and dream together we
can build not just a better Ontario, but a better Canada and a better world
for our children."Disponible en français
