TORONTO, May 29 /CNW/ - Corus Entertainment's Movie Central (western
Canada) and Astral Media's The Movie Network (eastern Canada) introduce the
new Showtime mystery-thriller series Meadowlands. Movie Central premieres the
series day-and-date with Showtime Sunday, June 17 at 9 p.m. PT on Movie
Central 4. Meadowlands premieres on The Movie Network and Movie Central 1 on
Monday, June 18 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
This eight-part thriller explores the nature of memory and identity by
asking the question: can anyone ever really wipe the slate clean? Trying to
hide from a troubled past, Danny Brogan (David Morrissey) and his family are
placed in a witness protection program. He hopes the fresh start will heal
their strained family relationships, particularly his failing marriage with
his wife Evelyn (Lucy Cohu). Meanwhile, their 17-year-old twins Zoe (Felicity
Jones) and Mark (Harry Treadaway) remain traumatized by what they have
experienced in their old lives. Mark has not spoken in four months and Zoe
channels her fear into a fascination with finding out all her neighbours' dark
secrets.
Upon first glance, Meadowlands is a picturesque, crime-free paradise. But
a deeper look reveals a world that is becoming increasingly dysfunctional and
devoid of normalcy. Darkness begins to seep in as Danny discovers that he and
his neighbours are exactly alike - everyone around them has seen something,
said something or done something so terrible that they have been removed from
the outside world and placed off the radar in a heaven that quickly becomes
hell. Now, they have been given a fresh start - solidly built on a foundation
of lies.
Written and created by Robert Murphy (Murder City) and Matthew Arlidge
(Monarch of the Glen) and executive produced by Douglas Rae (executive
producer of the Oscar(R)-nominated feature film Mrs. Brown) of Ecosse Films,
Meadowlands is a Showtime and Channel 4 co-production shot entirely on
location in the U.K.
New episodes of Meadowlands will also be available on Movie Central On
Demand and The Movie Network OnDemand the Tuesday following their network
premieres. The series can also be seen on Movie Central and The Movie
Network's HD channels.
