Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations published in Canada Gazette, Part I

CALGARY, Feb. 15, 2013 /CNW/ - The National Energy Board (NEB or the Board) has developed draft Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) Regulations. These regulations are being published in the Canada Gazette, Part I for thirty days to provide an opportunity for interested Canadians to review and comment. Comments must be received by 18 March 2013.

The NEB requires pipeline companies to anticipate, prevent, manage and mitigate potentially dangerous conditions associated with their pipelines. AMPs are financial penalties the Board will be able to impose on companies or individuals for non-compliance with the National Energy Board Act or its regulations intended to encourage safety and environmental protection.

These regulations will be in place by July 2013.

The proposed regulations can be viewed on the Canada Gazette website at http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/index-eng.html or by visiting the NEB's website.

The National Energy Board is an independent federal regulator of several parts of Canada's energy industry with the safety of Canadians and protection of the environment as its top priority. Its purpose is to regulate pipelines, energy development and trade in the Canadian public interest. For more information on the NEB and its mandate, please visit www.neb-one.gc.ca.
